Die Geschichte des Klosters Speinshart wurde insbesondere durch die Pröpste und Äbte geprägt. Mit der Erhebung zur Abtei 1459 stellten vor allem die fränkischen Adelsfamilien die Oberen des Klosters. Nach der Wiederbesiedelung in der Barockzeit prägten die Äbte durch reiche Bautätigkeit die Region um das Kloster Speinshart.
